Protected Vehicles has approximately 600,000 sq. ft. of industrial space on the former Charleston Naval Base with equipment for heavy metal fabrication capable of cutting; bending and manufacturing; enabling complete onsite fabrication of our capsules. This includes 1,000 Ton Press Brakes; 500 Ton Shears; multiple plasma cutting tables; and 50 Ton Cranes linked to a fully equipped process cellular manufacturing space. In addition we have full access to a heavily equipped machine facility (175,000 sq. ft.), including a $15M RAMP system, immediately adjacent to our buildings. Manufacturing expansion capacity is available.

Garth J. M. Barrett
Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer

In 1997, Garth Barrett founded Technical Solutions Group, Inc. (TSG) in California, moving the business to Charleston, South Carolina in 1999, where he held the positions of President and Chief Technology Officer. TSG was purchased by Force Protection in 2002.
Garth is attributed with bringing the South African mine protection technology to the US. Garth attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England. As a Lt. Colonel he commanded a Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment in Rhodesia and a Special Forces Unit in South Africa and is a military Staff College graduate. Colonel Barrett has extensive special warfare experience and brings to Protected Vehicles Inc. more than 35 years of work related to explosives, land mines and ballistics.
Now a US citizen, Garth is also a recognized authority in counter-terrorism, intelligence, and security. Since leaving the military, Colonel Barrett has been the President of five companies and managed a number of international humanitarian and commercial de-mining operations, providing consulting services to a variety of international organizations and governments. He invented and patented a bomb inhibition system, called the Barrett Bag.

Thomas H. Thebes
Chief Financial Officer

Tom Thebes is a seasoned professional with more than two decades' experience in accounting, contract administration and performance measurement.
Most recently Tom was CFO of Force Protection in Ladson, South Carolina. He had full P/L responsibility for the Sony/Erricson product line for Flextronics and he was Controller at ID Technologies, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based biometric technology company, following several assignments with KPMG in the accounting and consulting practice.
Tom is a member of AICPA and the Association of the United States Army. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Miami University and majored in international business and finance in the MBA program at the University of Toledo. During 2002, he completed studies in Systems Thinking under Barry Richmond, Foster Fellow, MIT. He has been featured as a guest lecturer in Activity Based Management and Performance Measurement at the University of North Carolina, University of Tennessee, and Clemson University.

Michael Sandusky
Executive Director, Program Management

Michael has extensive experience in the industry with medium and heavy tactical vehicles. Michael has spent the past six years spearheading the development and execution of several government contracts with billion dollar values. More specific to Protected Vehicles, Incorporated, Michael was key in winning contracts for the production of 14 variants of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) and other tactical trucks for the US Department of Defense for use in Afghanistan and Iraq. Prior to his commercial experience, Michael had 36 years of military and civilian service with a majority of his time spent with the Army Materiel Command (AMC), retiring at the Senior Executive Service level of SES-05, with the protocol equivalent of Major General.
Michaels achievements include modernization of the Armys Depot Maintenance activities including establishing today's five Centers of Technical Excellence in AMC; consolidation of the Armys supply and distribution system resulting in the creation of three large-scale and highly automated distribution centers in North America; reorganization of the Armys worldwide Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic (TMDE) program; consolidation of the Armys basic research laboratories; and modernizing the infrastructure of the Armys major materiel management and applied research and engineering functions.

MajGen James E. Livingston, USMC (Ret)
Consultant

A Medal of Honor recipient, three awards of the Purple Heart, and commanding officer for most of his service, Major General James E. Livingston, USMC (Ret) represents and advises PVI on strategic and tactical matters for the company and its products with particular interests in advancing the protection and tactical advantages of our troops in the field.
General Livingston is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Air War College. He holds a masters degree in Management from Webster University and Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Auburn University. General Livingston has commanded the Marine Barracks, United Kingdom, London, and served as Commanding Officer, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion and then as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training at the Marine Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. He then served with the 2nd Marine Division and commanded the 6th Marines before joining the Joint U.S. Assistance Group in the Republic of the Philippines.
Following advancement to brigadier general on 10 June 1988, he served as Deputy Director for Operations at the National Military Command Center in Washington, D.C. During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, BGen Livingston commanded the Marine Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, California and developed the Desert Warfare Training Program. After command of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, he was advanced to major general on 8 July 1991, and assumed command of the 4th Marine Division. In July 1992, he assumed command of the newly created Marine Reserve Force, and continued through its reorganization in October 1994, with its new title, Marine Forces Reserve.
Since retirement General Livingston has served his local and national communities including the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, National WWII Museum, VetJobs.com, Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission, Free Enterprise Foundation, and National Institute for Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism Preparedness.

James M. Tuten

Jim Tuten has over 28 years of experience and accomplishment in the development and application of advanced technology.
From 1977 until 1999 Jim was employed by Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus Ohio where he worked on a wide range of projects out the Engineering Mechanics Group over a number of industries. Significant projects were centered around transportation, energy, transit and the HVAC industries and usually hardware related. As a Principal Research Engineer and project manager he also developed communication and management skills to effectively work with numerous vendors, private companies and government agencies to conduct investigations of problems, failures and production or design issues.
Since 1999 Jim has been Vice President of Engineering of FUTREX Inc. Jim has a B.S., Mechanical Engineering (1975) Clemson University and a M.S., Mechanical Engineering (1977) Clemson University.

Robert Allen
Director, Automotive Integration

Bob has almost 30 years experience managing component fabrication, body shop, and service departments for various heavy-duty truck and heavy-equipment manufacturers. His experience in working with International, Peterbilt, Volvo, Ford, and GMC help provide a broad working knowledge of all vehicle components and automotive systems. Bob has key management experience in the areas of vehicle integration and service with particular experience in the design and development of specialty vehicles for oilfield services and off road applications. High proficiency in the workplace is a priority, evidenced by implementations of continuous training wherever he works and his personal commitment to meeting a customer's exact requirements.

Jimmy Lamb
Director, Manufacturing

Jimmy Lamb has more than 16 years of working experience, of which more than 12 years were spent in management and consulting roles in the heavy fabrication and machining industries.
With both a consultant and management background Jimmy has studied the processes of production and lived the day to day operations of large scale production execution with companies such as Figgie International and BE Aerospace. His hands-on leadership in large scale projects includes ERP/MRP system implementation, material flow optimization, ISO 9001 certification, and process re-engineering. Having also worked with automotive companies such as Nissan, Honda, and Ford in the logistics planning and scheduling groups; Jimmy is well versed in automotive production, development and maintenance of bills of materials and routings, and production and materials planning. Jimmy holds a degree in History from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

Randy Smith
Director, Integrated Logistics Support

Randy has over 25 years experience in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) with light armored vehicles, tanks and turret weapon stations supported around the globe. Over the years, he has provided leadership in developing and staffing ILS teams for Cadillac Gage, Textron Marine & Land Systems, and Force Protection Industries, Inc. In the past, Randy has managed ILS programs for Joint EOD Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV), Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles (ILAV), Buffalo Mine Protected Clearance Vehicle (MPCV), Dingo 2 All-Protected Vehicle (APV), M-1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV), V-300, V-150, Commando V-200 and V-150 Repowers, and Stingray Light Tanks.
Randy has also served as product warranty manager, ISO 9001 auditor, and training instructor for customer fleet management. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in General Business Studies from Excelsior College.

Paul Palmer
Director, Materials

Paul Palmer brings to Protected Vehicles, Inc. fifteen years of diverse Federal and Department of Defense related manufacturing program management experience. He has served with international corporations, such as CR Bard (medical) and Corning (optics) in the development of robust production planning, operations scheduling, supply chain systems, inventory management, regulatory, and traceability programs to deliver high quality products within critical budget and timeline constraints for a range of customers including the automotive, telecom and aerospace industries.
Paul is practiced in ISO-9001 manufacturing and U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) certification, maintenance and compliance as well as world market materials acquisitions, importing and exporting. He earned direct heavy vehicle manufacturing experience at Force Protection Industries (SC) during the exceptionally rapid development and production of the ballistic and mine protected Buffalo and Cougar vehicles. Paul holds a degree in Economics from Framingham State College (MA).

The PVI-ALPHA made its debut at the Modern Day Marine show in Quantico, VA on September 12, 2006 under the project name "Bulldog." This is PVI's Light Protected Vehicle (LPV), 4 x 4 for on/off road use and in the 8-13 Ton Class, it has 8 seat capacity and is designed principally for asymmetric warfare. Specifically aimed at the Up-Armored HMMWV replacement market, the ALPHA is also designed to serve the needs of diplomatic, VIP and other security related agencies in high risk areas where vehicles, such as the up-armored Suburban, can no longer meet the threats present. As with all vehicles from PVI, field installable up-armor capabilities are considered from the outset. Our own armor, ShieldAll™, offers this vehicle class significant increases in payload capacity and overall vehicle performance while providing protection from 50 caliber AP and beyond.
